If you have been laid off or you are currently not working, you need to contact the local office to let them know your status. That way you can be put on the Out of Work List and make sure you are paying the correct dues amount!
When are my Union dues due?
Dues MUST be received in the office no later than the last business day of the month.
We accept debit and credit card payments over the phone (Visa and MasterCard only)
Am I billed for my dues?
No. you will not be billed. It is your responsibility to make sure your dues are paid on time.
As per the SMART Constitution, failure to pay dues in any two (2) consecutive months will result in suspension of membership
Reinstating from Suspension
If you have gone suspended you have the opportunity to reinstate your membership within 2 months of being suspended. You will need to pay a $100 reinstatement fee along with 2 months of dues in advance.
Forfeit of Membership
If you have gone Suspended and have not reinstated within 2 months, as per the constitution, you will be forfeited and will no longer be considered a member. You will need to contact the Business Manager and make arrangements to reinitiate into the union. This will include having to pay an initiation fee. You cannot work once your membership has been forfeited.
You may purchase a withdrawal card once your dues are paid thru the current month and all assessments are paid. There is a $50 fee for a withdrawal card. Members on Withdrawal cards are required to pay dues at the rate of $60 per year ($5 per month) paid in advance on or before the first day of the year. If you wish to reinstate from a withdrawal card, there is a $50 reinstatement fee.
