A Note From John....
Fall is here and the weather may be changing, but we don’t see any changes in the work out there for the members of Local 103. All indicators are pointing to a busy Fall and Winter across the local. Our contractors will be needing to man work in all areas of Local 103. To help get the new members we’ll need, we have hired Brother Josh Cox as our Local 103 Organizer. He will bring to us the ability to concentrate full time on increasing membership and work opportunities for the members. He will need all our help in order to succeed. Everyone will need to provide input on potential new members and targets. Together we will get the new members to man every project and become a stronger local.
The time to come together and increase the market share for your Local 103 is now. Whether it’s organizing, updating our training, being on the job ready to work every day or embracing new technology and innovation to make us more productive, we must all do all we can to make Local 103 the go to source for skilled workers that get the job done!

The Montana Sheet Metal JATC currently has forty-eight (48) apprentices in the program. This is the largest group of apprentices in the history of the JATC. The Board feels these large numbers should facilitate the need for manpower in a growing market place and address the attrition of Journeypersons over the next five years. We will be sending out notifications for applicants in the Missoula and Helena areas. Billings area just completed interviews on the 19th of September. Bozeman and Missoula interviews will be held before first year classes begin in November.
Fourth year classes began September 30th. A complete schedule has been mailed out and is also available on the Local 103 and JATC websites. With such large numbers in the first and second years, there will be two groups in each of those years. Apprentices need to make sure which group they belong to and attend the weeks they have been assigned. The JATC would like to welcome the first year apprentices to the program. They are Preston Schriver, Garon Herriford (Air Controls- Billings) Lukas Blankers (Air Controls- Bozeman); Christopher Bradley, Kevin McCuin (Empire); Trent Grande (Tri-County Mechanical); Jeffery Adkins (B&B Heating); Kara McConnell (Central Heating); Corey Brewington, Tim Fite, Zack Kunz, Hayden Boslough-Moore (NORPAC); and Lane Kelly, Kyle Nelson, Chris Flink (Apollo Mechanical). We look forward to having you in class.
Dale will be attending the Coordinator’s Conference in October. They will be concentrating on New Technologies, apprentice recruitment, tracking databases, and new ITI curriculum releases at this conference.
The JATC was awarded Platinum Level Accreditation from the ITI’s Audit Committee. ITI Regional Representative Ron McGuire will present the award at the next JATC Board meeting on November 8th, 2019.
We would like to wish everyone a safe and successful hunting season!!
Dale Carpenter, Coordinator
